Keep Rox, RoxA petition would rename Roxborough State Park. Comments are due October 29.Read and comment

Trail and ultra races across the Front Range and the Colorado high country. Hard, honest courses, one price that never goes up, and the kind of care on race day that lets you think about nothing but the trail.

Right now

Keep Rox, RoxA petition would rename Roxborough State Park. We think it should keep its name, and we have a better idea for honoring Governor Lamm. Comments to the Parks and Wildlife Commission are due October 29.Read and comment

Popeye’s Backyard Ultra

Greenland Open Space, Larkspur  ·  last runner standing

Every hour on the hour the bell rings and everyone still in it runs the same 4.167 mile loop on dirt. Finish inside the hour and you go again. Miss it and you’re done. It runs straight through the night on public land until one person is left. Twelve yards is 50 miles. Twenty-four is 100. Stop whenever you want to.

It’s the easiest ultra to start and the hardest one to finish. A yard in an hour is 14:24 a mile, so one yard is a trail race and most people walk away with a distance they’ve never run. Registered with the Backyard Ultra Association; every yard counts in the world rankings.

Park at the Greenland trailhead, I-25 exit 167. Crews set up a few steps from the corral with the aid station right there. Douglas County has permitted it to run through the night, so there is no hard stop.

Founder and race director

Scott Schrader

Scott Schrader of The Stoke Fine Racing Events started The Stoke in September 2025 to share the trails he runs. Every course starts as a run, gets built with the people who manage the land, and gets marked on foot.

He still races. Five weeks after putting on the first Roxborough Ultras, he won the Run Rabbit Run 50 in Steamboat.

A daily read, free

same forest

One page a day. Two people who never met, thinking about the same thing: a stoic and a monk, a poet and a physicist, a runner and a saint. A few lines from each and what they did about it.

Scott built it for his own mornings. It lives at stoketrailracing.com/same-forest and a new spread goes up every day. Today’s is below.

Henry David Thoreau

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Walden, 1854
